NEW MUSIC: Tory Lanez - I Told You

Friday, August 26, 2016

Well look at this! I didn't even know he had an album coming so soon to be completely honest, but I'll get into my motivation for buying it later. Let me first say, I LOVE the setup of this album. The story flow of it all, I thoroughly enjoy albums/mixtapes that are made in that way. The "Say It" artist definitely will make an impact with this one, believe me!

I never believed Mr. Lanez got the recognition he deserved, but with this latest drop, if you didn't know him, you will now! This 14 tracked drop will definitely make his name a household topic. The entire album is most definitely an emotional one at best, and not your typical sappy emotionals either, this gives you the behind the scences and origin story of how it all started. Let's get into my favorites, shall we? There in no order guys

Track One: I Told You / Another One:
"It's the year 2008, I'm getting kicked up out the crib
Steady contemplating where the f--k I'm 'bout to live
Mama died same year my sister had the kid
It was either feed the fam or get killed"

This is the beginning (obvi) of the raw storytelling of Lanez origin. From not having his mother, to being homeless and getting involved with drugs to take care of himself and the family he had left and how it was literally a ride or die situation. This track definitely lets you know that not all celebrities got a head start in their careers. Some really did have to start at the bottom and are still climbing up.

Track Four: To D.R.E.A.M.
"Uh, oh look at how these n-ggas tryna hoe a young n-gga
I came from the bottom of the O. Never had a pot to piss in but I had the stove and got richer
N-gga you know what we doin', I've been hustin' just to get myself a cuban"

In this song, Lanez flashed back to growing up being poor, not having much of anything at all. Having older people in his life trying to control. Why I love this song so much (the whole album really) is because it focuses on how no one believed in him and his passion, his music. He had to make all this happen on his own, and look where he is! It really drives home the point that you don't need anyone to believe in you, as long as you believe in you.

Track Ten: Question Is
"Question is, can you forgive me baby
Can you even forgive me for the way I love you?

Can you forgive me for the way I love you?

Can you forgive me for the way I love you?

I love you from a distance
It got me so persistent
I love you from a distance
It got me so persistent"

Okay, I've been waiting to write about this track, why? Well I'll tell you. Not only was it Produced by someone I've known since I was but a young pup, Andrew "Pop" Wanzel, but my sweetheart, Brianna Cash blessed this song with her beautiful voice! I was so proud to hear that she was able to collab with Tory Lanez. But okay, back to the song. This follows Lanez as he recalls all that he and his lady have been through, how he's been treating her and the love (or lack thereof) that he's been giving to her. I love it mostly because he was able to sit back and realize what's been going on and how he's had to neglect things and put away certain emotions because of the lifestyle he was living. I sincerely appreciate when someone can sit everything aside and ask for forgiveness. Btw, the skit at the end of this track hit my heart so hard, you wouldn't even understand.

Track Twelve: All the Girls:
"So I wanna love tonight, woah
I wanna trust tonight, woah
I wanna care tonight, woah
You ain't been loved this good in a long time
So I wanna love tonight
I wanna trust tonight
I wanna care tonight
You ain't been loved this good in a long time
I wanna love"

We know all know fame and love don't always go hand and hand, and that is exactly what is happening here. Lanez explains to his lady that there are so many girls in the world, not that he wants them, but he could have them - yet out of all the girls in world, he's here with her. I think I have a couple trust issues now, just how would I act if my man was touring the country with girls ready and wiling at his command? Trust goes a long way ladies, truly.

Well, those were some of my favorites from I Told You by the one and only Tory Lanez, who may I add, is definitely putting his own footprint in the music industry. There are so many carbon copy artists out here today, but it's obvious he is not one of them! What were your favorites? Let me know.
