What are YOU thankful for?
Tuesday, December 01, 2015The past week made in uproar in many households due to the Thanksgiving Holiday (or Black Friday), and while I do not celebrate this holiday, it put me in such a thankful mood. I took the loving energy that I received from it and used it to express my love and appreciation for those near and dear to my heart.
It got me thinking though, why should we only be thankful this one day of the year? Why does it take this holiday for us to give people long texts, phone calls, email's, or DM's to tell them why we're so thankful to have them in our lives?
Just like Valentine's Day, why must it be limited to that one day for us to go all out for our loved one? Buy them gifts, take them out or just spend quality time with them. Don't let the holiday be the reason you do these things. I feel like the holiday should feel just like any other day, because we do those things regularly for our family, friends and other loved ones.
I did appreciate hearing so many stories though of families who haven't seen each other in years, connect once more, be in each other's warm, loving company and embrace one another as if time hasn't passed at all. Some families who may have been bickering used this as an opportunity to work out the knots in their relationships.
I personally was thankful to make it to another year to see my family together, under the same roof, feeling love as soon as you walk through the door even to those who weren't actually family, but a friend of family. Despite all of our dramatic fall outs, my family is definitely one to pull through things no matter what. I'm thankful for the strong female examples that were set before me within our family, though they are nearly insane sometimes, the women in my family make me proud each time they demonstrate that they are depending on no one but themselves and God to make it through and to cope with their trials.
I'm thankful for the woman who raised me. Despite it being yeaarrsss after her appropriate time to raise children and all of her kids being grown ups and own their own, she made a place for me in her world and though we bump heads, bicker at times, make each other very angry, I can honestly say I wouldn't be the person I am today. Thank you for showing me how to stand on my own, showing me that it's okay to stumble, to cry, to want to be alone but also to never give up. Never let the nay-sayers be right about anything and prove people wrong. While you're not my biological mother, you're just as perfect as any other mother in the world.
I'm thankful for all the young men in my family, my cousins who protect me like older brothers, and my two brothers who protect me like fathers. If it weren't for them, who's to say how I would act or where I would be, it's lovely to know that they're always there if I need a shoulder to cry on, someone to vent to, or someone to correct me when I'm wrong. I always say this, and I mean it more and more each time, I love all of my boys and no one comes before them.
I'm thankful for my best friend turned sister, turned cousin lol, one of the largest blessings I've ever received. I never imagined growing up with someone in so many ways. As a child I struggled with friendships for so many reasons, and this unexpected gem has stuck around for nearly 9 whole years! No matter how much we annoy each other and get on each others nerves, I know that she's the one girl I can always count on.
I'm thankful for the people I've met but am no longer in contact with, they've taught me lessons in their absence. Lesson's of many things that I wouldn't have learned without them and though we no longer speak, for that I am truly grateful.
I am thankful for my first love for more reasons than one, none of which are what you think, trust me. Thank you for teaching me and helping me with some many things in your presence and your absence, I'll always reminisce on the time our paths crossed.
Last but most certainly not least, I am thankful for You, All my followers, my readers and my supporters. I don't know how many there are of you, and I do not know all of you personally (though you can DM me anytime and change that), but I am so super thankful for all of your beautiful souls for doing what you do for me. Helping me out when I'm in a rut, offering a listening ear for either new poetry or my rambling, for being such amazing individuals I am truly grateful for you all.
So, what are you thankful for? Email me, DM me, anything, and let me know!
This isn't goodbye, it's see you later, until next time babies!
