Relationships and Social Media.
Tuesday, November 03, 2015Listen, I'm all for posting bae on Monday and showing him off, but when it becomes a mandatory weekly post, that's where I have to draw the line.
Instagram and twitter has just made so many issues. When #WCW/#MCM (woman crush wednesday/man crush monday) began to be a thing, I thought it was cute, I'm all for little trends like that for certain days of the week. It also helps you see who's creepin with who and that's really the best part, I'm nosy can't help it. However, when I started hearing that couples were breaking up over these posts and arguing because their boyfriends weren't posting them and guys thought girls were cheating on them cause they didn't get that tagged notification on Monday, that's when it felt like we were doing a little too much.
It's so sad that social media determines whether or not we're in a relationship with someone. Now, when people want to keep their relationship 'low-key', they're trying to hide something. I won't act like I haven't fallen victim to such mentality, but I can snap out of it. Some people genuinely believe that if you don't post a picture of them every week, on every social media platform, you're obviously cheating on them or are hiding them.
Personally, if you and your partner know your situation and what it is, then no one else really needs to know one thing about you and yours. If you must post about your boyfriend or girlfriend all the time, at least make sure you guys are like firmly established because I know y'all be embarassed after all that posting and you find out somebody is cheating on you with one of your followers while you never miss a #MCM/#WCW post. Stop letting others validate your personal relationships. that's all I'm saying.
Social media is shaping everyone's idea of relationships into some materialistic picture sort of. Making people think it's all about the best looking couple and what you two do for each other materialistically. So many people are forgetting the foundation of the relationship - friendship, trust, loyalty and communication. Maybe it's just me that still puts those things first, who knows.
Short post I know, but oh well, that's what I wanted to talk about lol.
This isn't goodbye, it's see you later, until next time!
