Meet Ann Gichuhi

You may recognize this African beauty from the viral video that surfaced earlier this year, of her belting out a few lyrics of Tink's Treat Me like Somebody. The one video that changed so much so quickly. I got an opportunity to speak to Ann earlier this month, here's how our convo went:

First things first, thanks so much for taking time out for this, it means a lot! I've admired your voice ever since I've heard it, how old are you? If you don't mind my asking.
I'm 16 and no problem thank you for giving me this opportunity.

No problem! You seem like such a driven person as far as your career is concerned, to be so young that's so commendable. A lot of teens are still just trying to get through school everyday. Now, I know you're involved in various things, acting, modeling and singing, what sparked your interest in that sort of career choice?

I love the arts and I wanted to make my dream of become the "next big thing" a reality. The arts can do so much as far as impact and move people's lives and it's just an amazing feeling. my experiences so far when someone tells me I changed how they feel it is an unexplainable amazing feeling.

Completely agree with the arts being able to change lives, their impact on some people is very inspiring! It's great to have such a passion at such a young age is beautiful, how are you able to maintain such everything and keep your drive? With your career and schooling, I'm sure things can get hectic.

What drives me is the fact that I want to show the world NOTHING is impossible. We here that a lot but sometimes it's hard to believe. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think Nicki would post a video of me singing on her Instagram.  I manage somehow l also work and I'm an intern in the process of getting my CNA license and I have school. It's a lot but I like being  busy. If I want to be in the industry I might as well get used to having a plateful

That's great that you want to show that nothing's impossible, so many get deterred from following their dreams because they think it's just that: a dream, impossible. Speaking of Nicki, I definitely wanted to touch on that! How did that feel? And the almost instant attention that received from it? I love her, I know I more than likely would've passed out instantly!

I was having the worst day that day and I worked my first double it seemed like everything was going downhill. I texted my manger and told her how awful my day was going and I was even crying that's how bad of a day it was. I put all my notifications off because I was going to sleep then Kenneth called me and told me she posted me and my tears went from tears of sadness to tears of joy! I turned my notifications on and it was just crazy my followers poured in I was so happy and thankful and I hope I get the opportunity to thank Nicki in person because that REALLY brightened up my day

My day was brightened for you! Lol, I'm so happy for you love. How is it, dealing with all this new attention and things? I'm sure your name was well known enough from where your from but now you have a fan base! How does that feel?

It's honestly so amazing I love people who show support and I'm always open to interacting with people. It warms my heart when people tell me I inspire them

Well you're definitely a product of "do what you love and it'll pay off". I can't wait to see you accept your first award in front of thousands love, I know it'll happen. Have there been an obstacles that you've had to over come in this journey so far?

I had to learn how to brush off the negative comments and focus more on the positive. That's very important and thank you love I'm going to work hard for it

With talent and success comes many haters, but for every hater you get, you gain 2 more fans, that's always what I think, lol not sure if that helps but yeah. Last question babe, for other people around your age trying to pursue what they love, do you have any advice for them?

Thank you I'll remember that and yes I do NEVER give up. EVER. Don't let anyone tell you how "realistic" your dreams are. Prove to them that anything is possible. It will be heard, but be patient great things come over time

I love that, I'll try to remember that myself. Thanks again so much for taking the time out to talk with me babe! I can't wait to watch you blossom into the star you truly are

Thanks again for the opportunity and no problem enjoy the rest of your day!
